Director of Modern Worship and Family Ministries

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia; and a proud Georgia native.  My family lived there for 13 years, then moved to Blairsville, Georgia in the mountains of North Georgia near Murphy, North Carolina.  I graduated from Union County High School in 1983.  I played football, basketball, baseball, and tennis.  I was a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and attended First Baptist Church Blairsville.  I attended youth group at Blairsville FBC throughout high school.  My sister still lives in Blairsville.  I attended Truett McConnell University (Cleveland, Georgia); and graduated from Mars Hill University in 1988.  I played Football (Mars Hill) and Tennis (Truett McConnell) in college.

I have been married to Rebecca Morris for 24 wonderful years.  We have a 15 year old daughter, Chloe; and a Yorkie named "Katie".  We have lived in Charlotte for 11 years.  Rebecca is from Robbinsville, North Carolina.

I've been blessed with some great mentors and influencers in my life.  My mom and dad were spiritual giants.  My faith wouldn't be what it is today without them.  There are many others: youth ministers, pastors, professors, friends, writers, etc... too many to mention, but I'm thankful for each one.

I became a Christian on November 18, 1978 at a youth retreat in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  My life was transformed and forever changed.  I am far from perfect and still in process: but desire to please the Lord in all I do.

"No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us."  (Philippians 3:13-14 NLT)

In October, I will have been in Ministry for 30 years.  It has been a great ride, never a dull moment :)  My primary ministry areas have been, and are, Youth Ministry and Leading Worship; but I have also done Children's Ministry in combination with other ministries throughout my career.  My favorite thing about ministry is teaching the Word of God, building relationships, coaching-training, and being a worship leader.  Faith formation and spiritual awakening is an exciting thing to behold.  I consider myself to be a spiritual farmer.  My call is to plant seeds, tend the soil, water it; then get out of the way and watch the Lord make it grow.  It can be a slow process at times, but I enjoy watching the Lord do His thing.

I'm an artsy-dreamer who loves creativity in myself and others. My father was an Architect, painter, musician, and philosopher; his mother was a night club singer; my mother had artistic talents too; so it comes naturally to me.  God has been gracious, allowing me to use my gifts for his glory in many different ways.  I am very passionate about creating new worship experiences and ministry that encourages others to discover and explore their creative spirit.

I love sports, but I'm not a sports freak :)  My favorite teams are the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (Not the DAWGS, boo :), Minnesota Vikings, and Tennessee Volunteers.  I'm a Sci-fi geek.  I love Star Wars, Dr. Who, Star Trek, Alien/Predator Series, Superhero movies, etc... I'm also a fan of British TV (BBC).  Other hobbies include:  weightlifting, reading, playstation, and MUSIC!!!  Did I say music?  This is my thing.  I would list my favorite artists, but there are too many to mention; basically anything with guitars.  I have a MASSIVE music collection.  I've been playing guitar since I was 18; and writing/recording my own music since I was 21.  You can check out my new stuff here

I am very honored and grateful to have the opportunity to serve, and be a part of Stallings UMC family.  Can't wait to see what the Lord is got cookin! God Bless.
